Editing Tips

1. Red Eye Correction

Red-eye is the sinister-looking red color which eyes often take on when flash is used to photograph people, spoiling otherwise great images. It is caused when the camera's flash reflects off the capillaries in the retina at the back of the eye. Consumers say that red-eye causes the most disappointment when they view their captured memories.

Many software products are designed specifically for reducing this red-eye problem, such as:

Image Analyser
Red Eye Remover Pro
Red-e-Rem

2. Noise reduction

Noise reduction software is designed to reduce visible noise when present in a digital photo. There are several programs available and each does a surprisingly effective job.

When editing an image that contains noise, reduce the noise first before sharpening so as not to sharpen the noise.

Digital images shot in low light or with a high ISO setting are often very grainy, with flecks of color "noise" in areas that should have smooth color. Many software products are designed specifically for reducing this digital noise, such as:

Noise Ninja
Neat Image
Noiseware
